Deep Dive 3: The Sacred Spinal Column

As one of the hottest growing partners to a seasoned yoga practice, functional movement and self-massage are now being incorporated across drop-in yoga classes, crossfit boxes, and physical therapy sessions. This deep dive session looks at the sacred spinal column from its very root to its peak. But, it’s not just the spine that lives on this path, it’s our entire breathing apparatus, our circulatory apparatus, our digestive and reproductive systems, and a system of nerves that run a direct line of communication to our brain and impact our ability to reduce stress, downregulate, and engage in deep, restorative self-care.

This session is designed to reinforce our understanding of anatomy and how our body is designed to move, and then explore self-massage and modern movement techniques that can help us feel and function better. Learn not just how to move and massage, but how to strategically design a practice sequence with a particular goal in mind to bring the body into a better state of balance.

This session can provide tremendous insight for:
Everyone…yes, everyone.

  • Positions: Those who sit or stand too much in chronic positions that take the spine out of its natural alignment.

  • Activities: Pretty much any sport that moves the spine, torso and/or neck, those who want to improve breathing quality and capacity (runners/swimmers/athletes of any kind), those who want to improve their back bends, rotational capacity, and posture.

  • Pain/Disfunction: Back pain, scar tissue, emotional pain (depression/anxiety), digestive, and breathing disorders.

This course is eligible for 15 hours credits toward the JOY of Yoga 300 Hour Teacher Training.
