About the Cause: As of January 14th, 2020 historically devastating wildfires have decimated 46 million acres (72,000 square miles), destroyed nearly 6,000 buildings (2,779 homes), killed at least 34 people and an estimated one billion animals (some endangered species). At a certain point I decided I couldn’t just send “thoughts and prayers” anymore. I’ve found a location, gathered some of the most incredible and generous yoga teachers in the Bay Area and we’re going to try to raise over $10,000 to send to Team Rubicon of Australia. Team Rubicon is a group of veterans, first responders and passionate citizens who mobilize quickly to provide relief services on multiple levels. Team Rubicon often moves into emergency zones right after first responders and emergency aid and can help with everything from demolition and clean up to community support and help filing insurance claims. I’ve been in touch with a member of their team who notes it costs nearly $40,000 a day to mobilize a mission and they currently have 4 active operations in Victoria, South Australia, New South Wales and Kangaroo Island.
