Mindfully Just | Intersecting Social Justice and Yoga for Collective Transformation

Designed by Monique Wright and Anjali Rao, this intensive explores our practice of yoga in relationship to the world we inhabit. We are witnessing first hand how ignorance, oppression, prejudice, racial and social injustice causes suffering. We each have a role to play, to dive deep within, to unlearn much of what we have been taught, to know ourselves, to acknowledge and respond with skill and compassion. This intensive is dedicated to cultivating commitment for change, courage, emotional resilience and stamina. Click the button below for more details / info.

About Monique Wright

I took my first in-studio yoga class in 2008 and knew immediately there was some type of shift within. Since I was only looking for physical awareness, it was a welcomed surprise when I noticed spiritual awareness over anything else, which made my heart feel whole. This is when the connection between body, mind, and soul began. Over the past few years, I have dedicated myself to the practice of yoga on and off the mat which is transformational for me. This continued practice allows me to feel strong, beautiful, and also allows me to have an undeniable connection with myself. My focus has been on our in-risk youth that reside in the juvenile detention facilities across the Bay Area. But, being a soulful woman, yoga teacher, and doula, I continue to soak up knowledge with Off the Mat Into the World and Y12SR. I am more than honored and grateful to those I have shared my practice with and I am excited to share my love with all communities. Together, we can create a mystical space to find your inner peace through whole-hearted connections.

About Anjali Rao

Anjali Rao came to the yoga mat at nearly 40, recovering from surgery from breast cancer. Growing up in Bangalore, India, Karma and Bhakti Yoga was a way of life. She studies and teaches yoga philosophy/history from a socio-political perspective, and is deeply interested in the intersectionality of race, culture, gender, and accessibility of yoga practices. She is a multicultural training specialist and consultant in the Bay Area for the past 15 years and has trained global teams in building cultural competencies. She is a part of the teacher training faculty at Breathe Together, Los Gatos and Yoga for Cancer Survivorship for the Stanford Cancer Program, and serves on the Board for HERS Breast Cancer Foundation, a non-profit that helps survivors and those going through treatment regardless of financial status.

About Alyssa Prettyman

Alyssa Hale-Prettyman has been on her yoga journey for nearly 20 years. Through injury, unemployment, family struggles and the birth of two beautiful children - yoga has been the wind in her sails. When teaching, Alyssa brings a diverse tool kit to the table. Certified in Yoga Tune Up, Yin, Functional Movement Development and well studied in various body-work methodologies, Alyssa often brings therapy balls and a mixed bag of yoga props to help students enhance their “sense of self” through self-massage. From power vinyasa and functional conditioning to restorative and nidra - there isn’t one side of yoga that she sits in exclusively. She deeply believes in the work. She deeply believes in the rest.

Simply put, Alyssa uses yoga asana, pranayama and meditation/mindfulness techniques to be of greatest service to the people in front of her at any given time. She believes that the true “practice” is about bringing each other up one rung on the ladder. She believes in people - and our limitless capacity for growth, compassion, forgiveness and change. Her dream is to work with the prison populations and the elderly in the near future. She also enjoys acknowledging how strange it is to write a yoga bio in the third person.

About Lonnell Graham

Lonnell was introduced to yoga while rehabbing from a minor car accident in 2012. Realizing the healing potential of a consistent yoga practice, he devoted his time to the craft. A 2013 mission trip to Kigali, Rwanda to help the children at Imana Kids Orphanage had a profound effect on his life and his yoga practice. Leading a group of 100 orphans in a yoga practice, gave him the inspiration to become a yoga instructor when he returned back home. He is a supporter of Imana Kids: An Orphan-Care Ministry. He is a 200-hr certified yoga instructor and currently enrolled in the 300-hr certification through Jennifer Prugh’s JOY of Yoga Teacher Training at Breathe Together Yoga. Physical fitness has always been a central component of Lonnell’s life. He has enjoyed various forms of physical activity, including weight training, basketball, football, volleyball and tennis. He received his bachelor’s degree in business from Rockhurst University and has held positions as a marketing coordinator, educator, and insurance agent. After living in the San Francisco Bay Area for 15 years Lonnell, his wife, and two children relocated to Houston, Texas in 2018. He continues to teach yoga and develop his personal practice. Service to his community and educating youth on the benefits of yoga remain a constant motivation. You can learn more about Lonnell and where to find his classes at YogaSoulFlow.com.
